The Atkins's diet revolutionized the way people viewed dieting. It is based on the premise of eliminating carbohydrates from your diet and focusing on a more protein based one. What attracted millions of people around the world to this concept was that the Atkins's Diet promised that you could eat all the foods that you loved, and as much as you wanted, and still lose the weight that held you down. What's more is that the diet involves no calorie counting either. It has four main stages which are induction, ongoing weight loss, pre-maintenance and lifetime maintenance.
The induction is the toughest one to get through because it has more restrictions than the other three phases. It focuses on cutting out carbohydrates from your daily diet and eating as much protein as you want, including eggs, meat, poultry and fish. In the second phase, you increase carbohydrate content by a certain percentage in your diet but still keep it at a level where weight loss can be ongoing. In the third stage, the aim is to find out how many carbohydrates you can take in daily without gaining back any weight. The last stage helps you to stick to your new-found good eating habits and stay at the weight you want.
The South Beach diet is different because it aims to cut out the bad carbohydrates in your diet and replace them with good carbohydrates. It cuts back on trans-fats and reduces saturated fats. The diet has three phases where the first works to eliminate the hunger cycle, and it has been seen that the most weight loss occurs here. The second stage introduces fruits, vegetables and whole grains for your daily intake and goes on for as long as you want to lose weight. The third stage is focused on maintenance and to live according to the basic principles of the diet. Numerous studies have been done on the South Beach diet and the results have been favorable in all cases.
The great thing about these diets is that they work, and you can lose weight without exercise. Exercise will enhance your diet plan but it isn't necessary in either one.
